Alternator belt

Hi Folks,
Decided to go with my local bike shop for the 24000 service on my 1150gsa.
He said the only problem he encontered was that the recommended alternator belt was a 595? but when they fitted this it was to tight so they went for a 611?
Does this sound right.
55 1150 gsa se.

does sound odd on the face of it as the 611 is the one used on the 1100 and early (pre aug 2003) 1150s

could it be that they missed a trick when fitting? be interesting to know the size of the belt they took off.
 
Told me they have worked on a number of BMW's but they are pretty much a "do it all bike shop".
He has a good reputation and assured me that they were competent to do the service to schedule.

Me too...

That's funny.... I tried to swap my belt but I couldn't get the new one on. It's a 595 belt and a 2005 1150gs adv. Is there any chance the alternators are slightly larger??
I've got it in my head that the ADV has a higher output alternator... so is it physically bigger too?? Maybe the S.E. has the same?? Mind you, there is an awful lot of shite in my head too.... maybe this is a prime example!
I ran out of time with my belt tinkering last time so I'm going to investigate further this weekend.

So I had another look at it.
The new belt I have is a 595mm - which should be correct for a 2005 1150 ADV (according to the motorworks web site) . I managed to get it on.... However, it was so tight there was no way to lift the alternator as you would to tension the belt.
Doing a rough comparison of the old and new belt - the 595 belt is definitely shorter than the one fitted (by something like 1 cm).
So I'm going to get a 611 mm belt and see if that does the trick. To add to my confusion, the old belt has "592" written on it :nenau
 
Hi Jack,
I've just done a 1500 mls trip around Scotland with no problems so i am assuming the longer belt is ok.
Time will tell.
