I’m after some Aluminium panniers for my new r1250gs - any recommendations ? And anyone had problems with GS rear footpeg hangers which appear to prevent fixing as they have a vario lug - I’ve been told they need to be replaced with GSA versions!

You will find BMW GSA panniers for sale regularly on this site. Other brands are available which the users will defend vociferously as THE ONLY ones to have bar none. Anyone who says differently is to be pilloried and subject to much abuse as is the custom in this site.
Yes you will have to change the footrest hangers and additionally source the pannier mounting brackets - commonly referred to here as ‘scaffolding’.

Have a look at Motopro panniers, I have then on my gs1250, they do 2 sizes, the larger size is massive!

I've only ever had the SW Motech Trax Adv panniers, but, I love them. On my second set now, used them for multiple Euro trips and personally never had to question the quality. Obviously the price difference is massive but I haven't used the Bullshift ones.
