I've just been looking at my bike, thought I'd check the torque on the pinch bolts. Anyway, while I was down there, I noticed this and took a pic...

Am I just imagining things, or should there be something where that washer shaped mucky bit is?

Nope. The front wheel axle screws in from the other side....

I understand your concern, it does look as though something has been screwed up to the stanchion and now isn't. The good news is that, as Parky said, there shouldn't be anything there.

Good stuff, cheers guys. Dunno where that mark came from then I'll just wipe it off I suppose.

P.S. My pich bolts all needed half a turn.

There is a linky on here somewhere about the pinch bolts. Mine were the same, torqued them up, and put tipex on them so I could check them at a glance
