And Why Wouldn't I Want One?

Back when Richard Fincher championed the R1100GS (either in BiKE or RiDE) in the early 90's, I liked the look and reviews of it.

R1150GS is much nicer, 1150GS Adventure is OTT for anyone other than Ewan & Charlie (and other "real" adventurers ;) ) and 1200GS is too pretty & way out of my budget anyway.

Note to my wife: In case you read this and are wondering "what "budget" is he talking about?", just leave me alone - I'll sell all that stuff that you keep on at me to dump.

I've started digging out all my BiKE & RiDE magazines (full collection from 91 - 2004, when I stopped riding) to get researching the realisms of ownership.

The web seems decidedly sparse for info & reviews on the R1150GS. In fariness, I've just been looking for about a week, so there could be more than I've spotted.

So, aside from this site (which seems to be about the best resource I've come accross so far) what other on-line resources are there for GSs?

What do you guys dislike most about your GSs?

I'm 5' 10", 14.5 stone (working on getting down to 13-ish, but dear god I love French Fancies).

I came accross this ad ( http://www.motorbiking.co.uk/sales/...150gs&srt=make ASC&p=100&submit=Search&page=1 ) the other day and couldn't believe an 1150GS could be had for this money.

I'm not in a position to buy right now, so if anyone else fancies that bike, go for it - I'm sure there's more out there.

I'll start looking around this site for info & advice.

Thanks,

Mark

I see you have good taste and bad taste.

If I really dislike anything about my GS I fix it, it's all part of the process of your bike evolving with you. Save up and find a cheap one :thumb

Good morning, Mark!

You might want to poke around at ADVrider on the GSpot page. There's quite a bit of information there about all varieties of the GS. Keep in mind that problems tend to become overblown on such sites because people who don't have issues don't tend to write in just to say so.

Good luck! I know I fell in love with my 1150 as soon as I rode it!

Unless of course anyone should dare to question the reliability of a 1200, they regularly come out of hiding to it's defence;)

I like the look of the 1150GSA for sale on here at the moment, comes with a low seat so would be fine for a short arse.
Buy an 1150 and you'll soon be wishing you had a big tank even if you only ever ride to the shops :)

I just measured myself & the guy I share the office with - he claimed to be 5' 10" and I'm taller than him, so we had to check. I'm actually just a smidge over 5' 11"! Hah!

Still only a 32" inside leg . . .

I've sat on a mate's 1150GS and comfortably got the toes of both feet down. I don't know what position the seat was at.

Those behind the times do like to poke fun at expense of those who have moved on:thedummy.........check out the poll on the gsclub uk site.

No problems, I'm a short arse with a 29" inside leg, and can almost get both feet flat, albeit with a low seat, all of 20mm lower.

As for the price on the ad, they're even cheaper on autotrader.

OK say you maybe tall enough to handle the 1150GS but your target weight is way too low to be a member on this forum.

Come back when you get up to 16+ stone , 38in waist 46 inch chest.

At least that way you'll have a chance of picking up some good deals on secondhand clothing:thumb
