and you wonder why youve got no money

theyve been doing that since 1820 whenever (how fast is your horse :D )

The mind boggles alright, 579 people have been killed on the roads they said the last x number of years 80% as a result of speeding. How many of these are outside of the capital, but hey we can use our own judgement to decide what speed it is safe to drive on these roads depending on road conditions.
I do see their point to some extent one road in particular I travel on a regular basis Thomastown Co Kilkenny to Gowran is lethal speed limit reduced from 100 km to 80 km after 2 mothers lost their lives after a truck shed its unsecured load on a bend travelling at excessive speed.
So it's going to cost 8 million to fund this, if only they'd put something similar into
suicide prevention that's killing even more people in Ireland

More die of suicide in this country than are killed on the roads by a long shot and nothing is being done about it, Government are washing their hands clean because unlike the revenue they collect from speeding fines (usually in the 60 km zone) its not a money spinner

Same in the north too. It's not discussed. When on holiday in France a few years back we met a Dutch guy whose partner is based in Ireland and heads up suicide research for the EU. Unsurprisingly she chose to base herself in ireland because of the stats....
