annoying pop ups

I use Firefox but have noticed that when I go onto the Sky news website for example it launches Internet Explorer and I get two or three adverts pop up for sky tv or travel insurance? any ideas how to stop it? cheers

I have the Google Toolbar added to IE, this includes a Pop Up blocker which does a pretty good job.
