Interesting to read the history of ardnacrusha. I think it was one of the first hydros in europe, big siemens contract, looked for more than the original quote and got told to go forth..I believe there were people teaching english to the Germans (Howya bud, any gear? ) and there was a delicatessen !

Well, only 5 miles out with Ardnacrusha.

Great piece of civil engineering at the time 'the hydro' was built. Generated 85 Mw in 1929, which met nearly all the needs of the entire state. Now meets about 5%

Used to fish around there, Castleconnell, before ESB decided they wanted body parts instead of punts in exchange for an angling permit
