Greetings, All.

I had a look at the post by wesleyjohn on the same subject, then had a look at the crucial.com site, but I'm not well enough versed in these matters.

It appears that I have a 256Mb card in the only slot available on a fossil of a Compaq Prosignia 165 notebook. However, after looking at the system info, it seems as though 300Mb-odd of memory exist, or are actually present.

According to crucial.com, I should be limited to 192Mb.

Does this mean that my system has more memory than is being used...? Or needed?

My intentions, before starting all of this research, were to install Windows XP on me old dinosaur, as I was on 2000 Pro, before having to re-install 98 SE for more technical problems (beyond my control). So, is installing XP just a dream, then...?

Thanks for any help.

Is it swap space ?

I had a look at Orcalogic and they believe your Compaq has a maximum capacity of 192MB.

I think you know that this is not enough for XP.

As for it showing 300MB that could be the swap size.
