Another "Off Device" Route Planning Tool for TomToms.

I saw th thread on the TYRE application and it reminded me that there is another way to plan route on your pc and load them to your TomTom. This is a free bit of software called ITN Converter and it converts files from systems such as Microsoft Autoroute (.axe), MapPoint (.ptn), Navigon and a bunch of others. You simply plan your route on your computer, using one of the supported apps and save the file. Then open it in ITN Converter and convert it to a TomTom .itn file. It has a handy little feature to reverse the waypoints if you want to ride the route in the opposite direction. Also, the latest version also has a function to view the route in a google window.

I've used this quite successfully for the last year or so. One word of warning though, if you are using Microsoft Autoroute (and it probably applies to other apps too) make sure you are zoomed right in when you add a waypoint and make sure it gets added right on the road you need. Otherwise you may find they end up a few yards up a side road which can be very frustrating.

I agree, ITN Converter works very well and in fact you can use Google maps for complete itinerary planning.

I don't have a TomTom unit (Garmin Quest) but others that I ride with do so it's handy for converting routes either way before meeting for a ride-out.
