OK, I want one! :D

I read somewhere that BMW don't discount new bikes. At all. Ever.
- is this true? Do have have to just take a deep breath and pay the list price, or it it negotiable, like everywhere else? If so, what would be considered a good deal on a 1200GS? And is there an optimum time to negotiate? (last day of the month? anytime in January? etc)

Sorry about the boring subject matter....

I'm no expert, but I think yer unlikely to get a discount on a 1200. Demand is outstripping supply. Plus there's a price rise said to be in the pipeline for next year.

But it never hurts to ask!!

It's extremely unlikely (as close to impossible as it's possible to get) that you can negotiate a discount on the bike. You may, however, be able to do some sort of a deal on any accessories that you buy at the same time, such as luggage etc.

I bought my Adventure nearly two years ago when there was a long waiting list. The best I could do was get a top box thrown in (normally two or three hundred quid). Worth a try.

If you're px'ing, its well worth shopping around. Offers can vary considerably. Also check what is included - there was a thread a while ago as to how "free" the 600 mile service was. Some charge parts, some are genuinely free.

When I orderd my GS in June last year for a Sept 1st delivery I was offered about £450 off list plus 10% off any accessories ordered at the time.
Bearing in mind that this wasn't a stock bike but one I ordered to my colour/spec I was very impressed, especially after previously hearing that they were never discounted.
Effectivly it meant that I got the heated grips, handgaurds & engine-bars FOC and as I was having all these things anyway (as well as ABS, panniers etc) I was quite impressed with the deal.

I am not sure about the 'free' 1st service. Certainly at the two dealers I was in contact with when I placed the order (and subsequently bought from one) they both charged for parts (about £25-£30 in total).

Definately no discounts but the variation in PX price I was offered on my old bike varied by as much as £500.

Thanks for all the replies - pretty much confirmed what I thought

... but I still want one!

So, it looks like either a really deep breath, or an ex-demo.

Which dealer did you go for Al? I've been a fan of Wollaston's for four years now,but never got a discount out of them and the part-ex offer on my last GS was insulting. They will be your closest dealer, right?

whatever you do............

make sure you get a tube of bath sealant as part of the deal.............

Bear in mind the running in procedure is often overlooked on demo bikes- tens of different riders not giving a hoot about breaking it in gently. (Well at least I didn't when I had one as a loan bike, I reckon they have an easier life if stolen)

Reply to Heated Grips.

Yes, Woolaston are my nearest dealer and it was they who first offered me the discount but as I didn't know them at the time I went back to Hughendon M40 who matched the deal.

I went to HM40 as I had known them for years and thought they were a good, long established dealership!?!
What they DIDN'T tell me was that on 1st Sept (the day I was due to pick up my bike) they were giving up the BMW franchise so I from then on I went to Woolastons who did the 600 mile service (HM40 paid Woolastons for the labour) and subsequent serving & warrenty work.

Alan:)
