Hi all,

Is there a method of picking up your 1100's etc. once it’s done a side dive?

I have only had mine a couple of days, but I 'm sure as hell its going to chuck its self on the ground at some point? it’s nearly caught me out already...

Any advice would be helpful so I don't look a complete prat at some roundabout or busy road junction during the rush hour, with the bike and me struggling to become one once again.

Cheers
Dragontest.

(Sorry if this is the incorrect place to post this question please move if you have to…...)

Fantastic just what I needed to know...
Many thanks

Hopefully I will not need it, as I would have been pulling and grunting till the cows came home without seeing the info.
Once again thanks

If you choose somewhere soft and grassy you could try it out so you aren't flustered when you have to do it for real.

On the BMW offroad course they show the following technique:
- turn off engine, put in gear if possible
- turn handlebars so the lower one is closest to the front of the bike
- one hand underneath that handgrip, the other underneath the first hand
- lift with legs keeping back straight.

My preference, however, is the bum/leg extension way shown at pinkribbonrides. It works very well on a 12GSA as there are good handholds in the right places. It makes sense to know more than one way of lifting as you can't always get to the bike due to trees, high banks, whatever.

Whichever way you choose it's vital you keep your back straight.

My method of choice is to use the shame and embarrassment to produce adrenaline and that helps to wrench it off the ground. *WARNING* This can lead to a very bad back the next day:blast

He he, yep I also subscribe to that 'if I do it quickly enough maybe no-one will notice' approach. Grab the nearest solid part, explosive leg extension, and as soon as you're upright glance around to see whether you got away with it and book the chiropractor.

And before anyone asks, no, an explosive leg extension's not the KGB's latest gadget.

Picking it up

That's when you realise the (only?) advantage of a 1200 is, they are SO much easier to pick up.

OPPTION 1, SHOOT IT IN THE HEAD & WALK CALMLY AWAY.
OPPTION 2,SHOUT & SCREAM, & JUST KEEP KICKING IT, TILL SOMEBODY TAKES PITY ON YOU & HELPS OUT.
IF YOU CAN STAND THERE, SCRATCHING YOUR HEAD, WONDERING HOW TO PICK IT UP, THEN YOU,VE HAD A RESULT. ALTERNATIVLIE ,GET TOOLS OUT, & JUST KEEP UNBOLTING BITS TILL YOU CAN MOVE IT.

Then you've got to pick all the bits up :D

But the first, and most important thing to do before picking up a GS is......................take a picture and post it here:D

Personally, I always make sure I have one of these to hand...........
