I had this email from my mate this morning, he's got an 1150 RT Twin Spark.
It's his first BMW and he's getting mightily pissed off with the problems that he's getting with it and the dealer service.

Coming into work Monday, trouble going down the gears.
On Monday night I strapped up the clutch lever to see if there was air in the hydraulic fluid, or if slave cylinder was leaking.
Tuesday morning the clutch was working better for the first half of my journey and no signs of leaks.
Gear change was getting worse, so I found I had to nudge the gear lever up before going down to the next gear, but sometimes it was ok.

The earliest that Vines in Guildford could look at the bike was 7th August! So I was going to give Brian Giles a call, but didn't get to it.
Left work last night and riding up the slip road onto the M4, changing up to 4th… no drive and horrible screeches when trying to change gear. This sounds expensive!!!
Coasted to a halt on the hardshoulder, and then got transported home on the back of a truck. At least the sun was shining.

Have seen on the web a company called Mobitec who specialise in BMWs and bring a truck to your house etc to do repairs, servicing etc. Have you heard anything of them?

Pull back the rear gaiter to see if the rear g/box oil has been dumped through the seal:eek:

Thanks Tim, I told him this and he replied:

I think it is worse than oil on the clutch, Putting the bike into 1st without the engine running, and I could still push the bike back and forward

Pat Keenan is ex BMW Park West, he owns Mobitec and is a top man - brings his workshop to you in a 7 ton truck - 07971690668.

Try pulling back the rubber gaitor at the bevel box and check if you can smell burnt rubber.Maybe drive shaft spinning in its rubber cush.
Dont know if the RT gets the same sticky gearchange lever pivot as the GS.
Can you click through the gears when on centrestand (engine not running).

I hate to say it but from our experience Pat at Mobitec is responsible for one of the worst experiences we've ever had! As a friend in the industry put it... 'there's a reason he was fired from BMW'! Don't become another victim of Pat Keenan!

The thread is from 2007; you were just a lad then 😉

ps - ZacM just went through and smeared all threads referencing Mobitec
