I don't have images of an old one to compare, but the new one is lower and does not use the mount arms into frame ends that a number of riders (including my brother) have experienced sheared bolts with.

Some of the Givi dealers are getting supply (demand) issues as the sales of GS bikes are high anyway - and existing owners are also trying to swap for the newer design of rack

Thanks for the pictures :thumb
I have the early rack & want to change as the back rest on the top box is to high on the 12 compared to when it's on the 1100
Looks nice

Just noticed I did take a comparison photo of old vs new - note the old rack has the TT bag under it which will not work with the new rack

Hey that rack looks nice :D - it does look considerably lower - do you know how much lower the top box now is?

Also howmuch and from whom???? :aidan

Haven't measured it, but the new rack is just below the top of the pillion seat so it is probably something like 2 inches lower .

Bykebitz (http://www.bykebitz..co.uk/) in Yately (Hampshire) sell them but you will have to pre-order due to demand outstripping supply currently. Cost was just under £70 - but I did pick it up so no postage.

New rack

Can anyone tell me if the new rack is compatible with the existing side case racks?

Hi there

Can you tell me how your pillion finds the topbox being lower is it less/more uncomfortable? Mine has the backrest so just wandered if it would make it to low?

Dave

Sorry Dave but the only pillion rider I know that has ridden with the higher top box is currently brewing a bun in the oven so not exactly something I can get an opinion on. Currently I don't often ride with a pillion anyway. If I did I'd get one of the back rest pads for the case.

Do you mean like the box & side case on the blue bike @ the start of the thread
Managed to get one & fitted it today lot's better than the old one its the kappa one (the same as givi but different bage & £14 cheaper):D

Ye that's the Givi box I use (including backrest) and haven't had any complaints from the other half compared with previous bikes. Just wandered if being lower would put the back rest in an uncomfortable position:nenau

I meant the Givi side case tubular system.

I don't believe Givi will have messed up their ability to use their own side cases. Although not exactly sure how they mount.

One thing I did run into - I have been toying with the Hattech.de plate that can replace the pillion seat and found that the bolts that secure the grab handles fowl on the Hattech plate - I ended up moving the bolts out slightly by locating the grab rails outside the Givi side rails instead of inside (which is how the instructions are written) and by filing the edge of the Hattech plate slightly. There is a possibility that you could use the Givi rack without the grab handles fitted, which would also make a second top case easy to mount in the more forward position, but I am trying to keep everything at a level where I don't need a spanner to set the bike up for a pillion.

My wife is about 5ft 7ins she gets on by just throwing her leg over the seat not standing on the pegs so this could be a problem for her. I'll wait and try and see one before making any decision.

As you are only in Bracknell I would suggest arranging to meet up so you could test the height/position - but I have the '08 with the Seat Height Reduction Option that lowers the bike. As well as not having a back pad on my Givi it probably would not be a valid test. If interested though PM me and we can arrange somewhere to meet.
