Torn between a GS or RT as my next ride if i can convince the man with the clipboard to say yes ;)

However as I'm on the stumpy side, a lot depends on the seat width / floor ratio.

I asked in the GS section, and have had offers to try for size, which is great, but would like to do the

same with the RT.

The R1200R works as I've tried one of those for size,

Anyone near to Chichester got an RT they wouldn't mind me plonking my stumpy legs over it

to see if i can get it upright, ;)

I tried with a GS adventure, and failed miserably lol (mind you that's 3" on top of a normal GS lol)

Mart :)

Call Pete Gillard at West Sussex Motorcycle Hire and tell him Richard BD gave you his name.

He's in Chichester, has got RTs on his fleet and is very user friendly...

Happy me,

went in tonight ,

Both the GS & RT fit :),

The GS is slightly lighter than the RT, but the RT feels slightly lower if not wider.

The GS had the seat lowered & the ESA to single rider, likewise for the RT

I could get them both off the side stand, which was good,

Now the dilemma is which one,

I like both, her indoors likes the RT, I never go off road, so would the GS be just for show?

decisions!!!

Both great bikes, really need to have a good ride on both. Ideally back to back comparison. Better protection on the RT and bigger panniers (I think). Tough choice!

Think it may be driven by £££ and what i actually want from the bike.

I have a baby Vara at the moment,

What i like is its riding position and filtering ability,

What i dont like is its lack of power, (midrange or otherwise ) and its a bit open to the elements, lol

TBH is only a commuting machine so never used offroad, despite having 5% offroad tryes fitted lol

I think what is my wobble on the RT, is the width of the whole package, compared to the GS,

i hate big choices like this lol

RT is a better road bike. More protection from wind, rain etc

GS is better on rough roads/off-road

RT is better for passengers.

re: traffic filtering - there's not much difference. RT 'looks' wide, but it's not really. The mirrors are lower than the GS and the bars narrower, hence is better for filtering.

Update,

the very nice man from the DVSA, ticked the right box today, :)

Now to start looking properly :)
