Hi Guys, according to the book of words on removing the LH grip (if it is heated) then the `rubber flange has to be pulled back to reveal a fastener which then should be removed to allow the grip to be taken off the handlebar` (or words to that effect).

Well, on pushing back the said flange I have found what looks like an embedded in rubber nut with a fastener going through it presumably into a hole on the bar. Silly me thought there would be a purchase point on the fastener but there isn`t - I`ve tried mole grips/pliers/red wine but to no avail.

Naturally in my red wine fueled enthusiasm I have munched up the top of the fastener whilst using just bare teeth.

I sense I have missed something here.........

Has anyone tried to remove a heated LH grip and encountered the same issue and if so what was the answer? Any help thankfully received...........

I also tried to slot the fastener head to use a flat bladed screwdriver but to no avail........

Oh those cheeky monkeys.............

Well, I`ve taken a look at some images regarding grip removal and the following image clearly shows a wonderfully easily removed fastener so why FFS has my 2010 GSA got a fastener with as much purchase available on it as a slippery thing in a slippery competition?

Mine, before I chewed it up, had NOTHING on it - simply the end of the thread!

With it being on the handlebar, - and possibly a safety issue, I bet in their wisdom, BMW have given it an extra dollop of their concrete locktite. I know it's a heated grip, but have you tried warming it?

Mmmm

Well thanks for the promt reply guys and in answer to both:

1. no I haven`t tried heating it up TBH I feel it won`t make much difference

2. i`ve had the bike from new and I haven`t taken the top of the fastener off - it really really was just the end of the thread!

So, tmoz with my diamond files i am going to try and flatten it and drill it out...............

Unless someone has already come across this and the answer............

Has a dealer had a 'look' at the grips when in for a service

Mmmmm actually the dealer did have the bike during an issue with the heated grips.

i don`t beleive they would have left it like that...............

(pah - kinda know the answer to that one already...........)

I don`t have a dremel, rather the indutrial version of it - a mini die grinder

i`ll have a go at it tomorrow

Mark......looking at the impression left in the rubber you peeled back here:

I'm wondering if it was the end of a pop rivet? (there seems to be a circular impression)

Then again, it looks like steel :nenau

You have looked 180 degrees opposite for the screw head haven't you?

Loking at the 2010 model parts manual, that would be very sensible thing to try...

It looks like the grip is now held on by a screw (item #4) that passes all the way through the bar, out the other side and threads into a nut ( item #5), embedded in the grip exactly where the photo is looking ...

Hmm.. that could be one of those daft screws that you can screw in but can't screw out I had some for a window catch as I remember complete pest can't romove them after fitting. Although I can't think why they would use one of those or have you just completely F'd the screw head:D
