I'm off there for a week in June. Not on the bike - its for a photo documentary on the football scene in the islands.

I'm wondering if I stay in Torshavn can I get everywhere quite easily, or should I do a few nights there and then some more time further north? I'll be hiring a car. I could take a sleeping bag and sleep in the car too if required.

Have also blagged a helicopter for some aerial photography which will be cool.

Also, any specifically stunning places to see? I have heard of some black sand dunes up north somewhere. Any other tips gratefully received.

I've been twice with the bike........Fantastic place!

Toured every tunnel there with an Icelandic civil engineer aswell as visiting a few of the outlying farms on the islands.

Check out the specsavers 'Collie wobble' add on Youtube to get a flavour of the place!

Don't ever refer to the Faroese as 'seasick Icelanders'...........That's what the Icelanders call them because that's where they kicked them off the boat......!:D

I didn't go ashore but wondered how it all looked on land as it was stunning from the sea:)

Been for 3 days, on a trip back from Iceland. Certainly worth going, I think you could pretty much visit the whole area from Torshavn. But if you have a motor then I suppose it would make sense to sleep in car or b&b as you travel round.

I think when we went we rode our bikes from Torshavn to Klaksvik to the Black Sheep brewery which is situated on one of the outer islands it took around an hour and quarter to get there.

It is easy to get around by bike / car. We just rode around and took lots of photos of the area. One area that sticks in my mind but cannot remember the name of the village was a little natural fishing harbour which was the inspiration for the nations most famous book 'barbara'

Have a good time, I assume it would be a landscape photographers dream destination

Thanks chaps - helpful as ever.

Any further intel gratefully received.

Here's a wee story I was told but i'm not sure if it's true or not.

Apparently the Faroe Isles have the most tunnels per head of population and they're always building new ones..........There was a wee village with six or seven houses and no road there unless you had a boat so they built a tunnel to the village with some 'Danish' money..........A few months later all the folk had moved because they could finally get a furniture van there!:D

An Icelander told me that one aswell!:blast

Been there for a few days, included a visit to the football ground there, it must have been a good 10 years ago at least. We arrived by air in appalling weather, the airport is on a different island to the capital and the short ferry crossing was interesting as was the landing.

Very friendly people, unique landscape but if you're eating out, give the puffin a miss
