Probably in the office. Again.
I've just installed it. And now I'm about to uninstall it and send it back for a refund. Apps take anything up to five minutes to load initially. Word is so flaky that even cutting and pasting crashes it. Mailmerge processes around 1 record a second.

It's so crap it's not even Muppetsoft Beta standard - and that's with the software update.

Anyone else had problems?

Been running it for almost a year with no issues what so ever, apps load quickly and never had a crash at anytime.

Have you spoken to Apple support?

I've loaded it to my mac seems alright very stable etc.

Thanks guys.

I've wiped the install, started again with installing Office X, then 2004, then 2008.

Seems to be somewhat happier now. Flaky instal first time round I guess. A bottle of red and another 14 hour day made me a little hasty I think... :o

You shouldn't need the old versions, i think it even goes through un-installing the old versions as 2008 goes on. Have you checked if you have any corrupt fonts etc. hanging around from the older versions?

Word loads in 30s on a recent mac from cold, probably faster if you have more spare RAM. Word/Excel have probably faulted a couple of times for me. Be sure to load the 12.0.1 update as there's a permissions bug in the retail version. - There's also a new service pack for the whole lot, but I never install stuff when on the road so I can't vouch for the stability of that yet.

major problems in entourage where you have a limit set on collecting a message and a rule gets applied resulting in one message being duplicated and deleting another, I've now lost quite a few mails because of this, only work around is to remove the limit which is a pain when using a cell phone connection.

word slow and flaky as is excel but they've always been like that in every other versions, must find out where to put my templates now as well :)

Been using it for some time thanks to a Client buying a 3 machine licence and wanting some 'support' on it. I don't use Entourage as it won't synch with my phone so mail, ical and address book is making do, which is a pain cos as an Outlook user for as long as day dot I miss a proper PIM. :(

No issues with it at all but also no experience of using the earlier versions either, it peeses all over the speed of Office on my PC's but double the memory and processor speed in the iMac might have something to do with that :P

Cant see the point of it. Have 2004, but since buying the Mac Pro I never bother with it.Just use MS Office 2007 via Bootcamp. So far I have had (much) fewer problems when using the Mac Pro with the Garmin 2610/Nokia E61/Canon MP600R/Maxtor Network Storage Drive etc etc than I have had using my Dell laptop (with exactly the same software installed).

Cheers all - and thanks for the help.

Got to say, the only reason I installed it all was because my business partner was keen!

Been trying to run a mailmerge today with a scanned signature. Normally, I prefer to sign things personally, but this time it made more sense to scan and print. Wrote the letter, added the sig. All well. Then mailmerged. No sig. Tried all sorts of malarkey before finally calling Microsoft. On hold while they tried to fix it for 40 mins (on and off) before we agreed to hang up and they'd e-mail me. This is the reply I got from a really helpful lass called Kimberley...

Hello Mark,

After much research with this document this is what we came up with. First you will have to save both the Word document and the Excel documents in the earlier format of 97-2004 .doc.

Then when the message comes up for the Word document speaking of converting it you will need to hold now the Apple Key plus the period key (.) and remove the source link and then save the document.

Once this is done then please do the data merge and you will be able to see the signature.

Please let me know how this works for you.

Thank you for using Microsoft Technical Support,

In other words, it worked fine in the old versions but doesn't work in the new 'un. :nenau

Little tip found on web.

Word 2008 takes ages to load if you have 'show project gallery at startup' and 'WYSIWSYG fonts and styles' turned on.

It's rendering millions of fonts and styles in memory for the first 30s. If you don't really need this, then disable those prefs and it loads in a couple of bounces.
