Anyone ever been to Neuschwanstein Castle?

Ive been absorbed by this image ever since my folks took me to see Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

If youve visited the place, whats it like?

Considering going next year on the bike.

bascially it looks like that when it sunny, there's a big carpark and a walk up to the castle.

There's also some special lake with a funny name like titty see, titty w4nk see... which was also nice...

enjoy the trip loads of little german villages with cake shops...

PS: It's "Titisee" - a very appropriate name, on a sunny day.

went a couple of years ago and took the guided tour , only half of it was ever completed, tour lasted about one hour.
if your in the area give it a go but don't try and park up near the castle take the horse drawn carridge instead

Was there last Aug, was mostly covered with scafolding and plastic sheeting. You can't ride up there so its a very long walk to the top or very expensive horse drawn carrages. Top tip. Take the town bus up to the top and back for a few Euros.

Was expecting something like the second photo, forget it, recon its taken from the air.


Edit. Both your photo and my second one are definatly taken from the air. They show the front of the castle with the mountains as a back drop. The scafoldy picture was taken of the back of the castle from up the hill.

Neuschwanstein... more impressive from the outside (from a distance) than it is inside. Close up it looks more like a filmset.
I much preferred Ludwig's small castle at Linderhof near Oberammergau.

Haven't been to his other ones at Herrenchiemsee, Nymphenburg and Hohenschwangau.

go early, leave early... more time in the cake shops...

you may be interested to know that my father first met Hermann Goring at Neuschwanstein in 1941

He was there with Geschwaderkommodore Josef Kammhuber for the presentation of his Ritterkreuz Des Eisernen Kreuzes.

My mother always frowned when this was mentioned as I believe my father lost a large amount of money at cards that week

I went a few years back and its fantastic but don't bother going inside as its a let down and as said not finished. Its not that old in reality but very impressive. You can see it from miles away. When I was there I saw loads of microlights so maybe they are taking some of these pics. The town of Fussen is close by and a greta place for a night out in the pubs and also close by is a town called "Wank" which is also great for a photo

You aren't to far from the Fernepasse into Austria too so a great part of the world

save yourself the trouble go to the gym set a stair climber, walking machine to gas mark 20 and walk fast for an hour wioth no stops.... you'll get the general feeling of that that's all about....
