Anyone going for the BMW "bright idea"?

TBH the drivers to be scared of dont look where they are going so dayglo and body lights are pretty pointless.

There are aluminium bodied spot lamps on eBay, containing 4 high power LEDS that give 1800 lumen for under £40 each. A good 50W halogen will manage half that amount of light.

Some of the high power cycle lights (some will zoom to wide and narrow beams) making 1800Lm on full power but also have a low power option. Fit a remote switch and you have full power to back up main beam and low power as marker daylights. They will also need a voltage converter but they are easy enough to find.

This is a quick search there others with better clips

Someone was selling a BRAND NEW Schuberth S2 on eBay a few weeks ago in high vis yellow for £220 buy it now. Not sure if it's still on there, but you could buy that and some of Fanum's wonderful lights and still save a few hundred £:rob:thumb

just bought a system 6 for £220 from local dealer and if you have a small head 50-51 they have one for £100

Would be interested to hear what problems you have had with your communicator systems?

Why the rolleyes? If it makes you feel better :D

Helmet 1 had a unique water feature, a little like a cascade of water gently flowing down the inside of the visor in heavy rain. Very calming, but not a great aid to visibility.

BMW Communicator 1 It refused to charge, suspected that the charging lead had come adrift, but when the dealer stripped it, this was not the case. Diagnosed as a faulty battery pack so the Control board and battery pack where replaced.

BMW Communicator 2Refused to power down, you could switch it off and then a few minutes later, it would switch itself on and you would get "Welcome to the BMW communication system", Power it down and a few moments later, on it came again. It would carry on until it exhausted the battery life. Diagnosed as a faulty on / off / volume control, so Control board and stick on volume control where replaced.

BMW Communicator 2 Now it distorts in the left speaker and has a sound as if I have tinnitus, the volume, whether connected to my zumo 660 or direct to the phone randomly jumps to full, then drops down again. But the left helmet speaker still crackles away regardless.

All in all, I'm a bit disappointed in the quality, I need to get the helmet back into the dealer again to get the speaker problem sorted but don't have time to do it yet.

Oh and ..... :rolleyes::blagblah:blagblah

 Cos have had a few issues with my own communicator set up.
First was on holiday, the system was 18 months old, when it stopped transmitting and receiving and was stuck ON. Unable to turn it off.:nenau
None off the buttons had any effect and when put on a charger the yellow light would flash.
Dealer in Italy wanted me to leave the helmet for 2 to 3 days, unable to comply.
Left alone it eventually drained its battery after 2 days and went off.
I informed my dealer in Uk and told no worry's mate , well fix that when you get back.:thumb2
Charged it up again next day and all was ok, has been fine ever since, therefore dealer unable to fix cos its not broken.:comfort
Also noticed that the charging lead (helmet end) was split where it enters the usb plug, the braided shield wire being visible and if wiggled about could put out the charging light.
Could that be why it stopped working I thought.
Showed my dealer, not interested, user error cos I maybe been bending the cable when putting it on charge or tucking the cable back into helmet.:rob
Also wondered how swapped the system to another helmet? as far as I know there was not a refitting kit available.
Suppose double sided sticky tape would do.
