Thinking about getting myself a "sports tourer" for next year so thought i'd do a bit of research in advance.

Having owned two Triumph Trophy 1200's I know they will do the job I require, i.e. dragging my fat arse and the wifes slightly less fat arse and our luggage at speed and in comfort.

Being on a limited budget I thought of either another 1200 Trophy or a zzr1100 but a Blackbird as been recomended, but I had heard there not so good with pillions (?)

Anyone got experiance ?

A mate in my work went from a Blackbird to a 12GS (which his wife loves as a pillion). A neighbour went from a 12GS to a Blackbird (which his wife loves as a pillion). I've ridden both and they are a superb bike, but not suited to my creaky old body. I found that there was a fairly long stretch to the bars, but my legs felt more cramped than my Vtec. But as a used buy, they're pretty much bullet proof.

had a blackbird two bikes ago. awesome machine and every pillon I had on the back loved it, couple of my friends actually felt comfortable enough to have a snooze on the motorways, been pillion on my own blackbird a few times and it's pretty darn comfortable

lovely bike which you'll enjoy

:D

Did Normandy on a '75 Notrun Commando :thumb
After that me missis made me buy the GSA.:augie

Friend went from 'old' 1200 Trophy to a s/h Blackbird last year.....makes the Triumph look 4th division !! His only complaint ( and he is 6ft 1" ) is the reach to the h/bars. Loves it otherwise.....btw I went to a Honda CB1300s and it is both powerful and very comfy for BOTH rider and pillion !! :thumb

So its a Blackbird with a flat bar conversion :thumb

Just happened to be passing a local bike dealer today, popped in for a look. Two black blackbirds over priced as is normal for "Ride On Motorcycles" 38,000 R reg £3499 and a 28,000 R reg £3999. But will be worth getting a test ride to see how one goes.

you can get a pan for that sort of money 200 miles on a tank at 100mph i had one for 3 years and 30000 miles best ride cherbourg to pampalona in a day and the wife was very happy after 900miles the only thing with hondas is the service intervals 4000 minor 8000 major 16000 plugs valves and everything else also blackbirds suffer from downpipe rot the pipes and collector are mild steel the rest is stainless

BB

Just do it. The best all round bike in the world, BAR NONE!. Goes like stink, all day comfort, good economy, and more reliable than a GS . On my second one at the moment, and had GS's. Not a patch on the BB IMHO. If the bars are an issue, change 'em to Vario bars, and put an HID light on it and away you go:rob

Still need to blag a ride on a Blackbird I know they have loads of power but i'm more interested in grunt, my old Trophy would pull in top gear from any speed including a standing start. Is the Blackbird to speed oriented ?

Would bother with a Pan I'd buy a later model Trophy first :D

Stef

rode one at work for a few days, awesome power and instant grunt in virtually any gear but do have a good test ride before finally committing, the riding position is more sports than tourer and is quite uncomfortable below 60mph, at least it was for me.
