Since last thursday, I haven't been able to access the mail.tesco.net pop3 mail server through my Tiscali Broadband connection. I can't ping the IP address and a tracert fails.

i reckon it's a routing problem. Is anyone else experiencing it?

I have a Tesco email a/c which I access via POP3. I haven't experienced any problems. I am currently connecting via Virgin broadband (Tesco & Virgin are rebadged NTL).

Also, I have a legacy Tiscali email a/c which I rarely use now. However, if I log into Tiscali's webmail server I can remotely access the Tesco email via POP3 i.e. download my emails to the Tiscali webmail server. This suggests that there is no problem accessing the Tesco server from the Tiscali domain.

In the past, I've fixed this sort of problem by manually configuring the DNS to use primary, secondary and a server not owned by the ISP. However, if you cannot actually ping the IP for mail.tesco.net (212.250.162.8) then this may not be the problem.

Tiscali DNS Numbers for you to try anyway:
Primary DNS 212.74.112.66
Secondary DNS 212.74.112.67

Google should throw up some alternatives

The bizarre thing is that I can access the tesco server through the tiscali webmail 'download external mail' area. However, if I try through the tesco website, even though I can get the page, when I try to log in I get the 'page unavailable' message in the area normally reserved for the mailbox dialogue (ie I can't access the mail server). I can't ping it nor tracert. Must be a routing problem!

Oh and I can get my mail through Mail2web.com. It's just that to manually retrieve is a pain when you're used to automatic collection!

Cheers
Andy
