Anyone got any ideas on pricing and replacability for a headlamp lens?

Unfortunately the scrotes came-a-visiting tonight, and we found all 3 of our bikes flat on their sides on the ground, along with an assortment of wingmirrors removed from cars on the premises.

Others are managing with lever damage and paint scrapes, but my '08 GSA caught a brick pillar as it went down and shattered the headlamp lens.

Anyone got any ideas on pricing and availability for a new lens, and opinions on whether it's sensibly user-replaceable or needs a whole new assembly? (Like so many things these days.)

*knows he got lucky, but still fed up*

It's a sealed unit so you need to buy the whole thing.... for around 240 of your Earth pounds :(

Unfortunately they're a high demand item (internals are made of easy-breaky stuff) so I wouldn't hold out for Ebay as they seem to get stupid money there (£180 recently).

Mav, are you 100% sure the whole unit is sealed??

I looked at the parts micofiche at the A&S website.

The headlight is on frame 63.

The front 'cover frame' for the headlight unit on the BMW parts microfiche looks removable (Part number 63 12 7 666 758) but doesn't tell if it includes the glass or not. It looks like it can be unscrewed from the main plastic headlight binnacle.

Maybe worth a call to the dealers as I believe this part is for US model bikes but there must be a european/UK version?

If it includes the glass it could save you a small fortune.

I'm about 99% sure - sorry :(

Sealed units. Having seen how the glass (very thick and dang sharp) is held into the unit, trying to remove the lens even with large amounts of violence is nigh on impossible.

At least the replacement units are easy and quick to fit, including bulbs too.

Have you tried Motoworks?

Yep - finally got through to them just before they shut today (most of the other breakers only work weekdays, it seems, so that's a job for Monday).
They think they've got a few handy, assuming the code for the facelift model is the same as the pre-facelift (which I'll check shortly), so they're going to give me a bell back on Monday with availability.

Used part looks like £160+VAT, official pricing for the new part is 212.18+VAT - the rising Eurozone isn't doing me any favours...

Well looks like its time to become a subscriber, promise I will do that soonest :augie
I can sell you my mine ! Why, well I will bring my GSA permanently from the UK to Europe, so I had to buy a new Euro spec lens unit to comply with driving on the right side (light beam shines to the other side).
BMW wanted over 300 Euro for it

The GSA is a 07 model and has only 4500 miles on the clock. The UK spec lens unit is currently at BSD in Peterborough, but could obviously be mailed within the UK. How about 160 GBP plus postage (if applicable). Will leave the bulbs in it as well.

By the way sorry to hear about these a holes kicking over bikes.

I'm definitely interested in that (pending, of course, higher prices elsewhere), if it's a 6312 771 3388 and postage to the Midlands isn't a million pounds.

Unfortunately I've got a feeling that's just the swap-out mounting frame for the off-road headlight protector, as that has snap-in points on it or something similar.

I called BVM for a parts quote and was met by much sucking of teeth as they don't have an individual code for the glass and, to their documentation at least, is a sealed unit. :( Their parts guy's then recommendation was "I'd go and start ringing round the breakers, if I were you..." :)

Ack, sorry - I was expecting a yay/nay from you yourself. My bad.

Motoworks came up with one for £160 next day delivered so I jumped on that one instead.
Although, Sods Law being in full effect, it's been dark and chucking it down every evening I've got back from work, so I've been unable to fit it thus far. :(
