We've recently moved to Fuengirola and should collect our GS in a day or two. We don't know the area other than as a holiday destination so if anyone lives around here and fancies meeting for a coffee and possible ride out, let me know. You can pm me and I can send email address.
We're a couple, M58, F29and a bit ;) recently retired :D:D:D:D and are bimblers rather than thrashers. We want to see the countryside, not just speed through it.

You've got a missus half your age, why would you be out on your bike? :D

I spend a lot of time down near San Pedro de Alcantara. There are lots of good places to ride to for you.

1 El Chorro (Caminito del Rey)
2 Istan
3 Ronda
4 Tarifa

So open "the Google" :D and look at these places. I have met up with Rockred from Gib for coffee and there is anothe Ukgser living in Casares (near Estepona). Are you importing a UK registered bike ? Changing your licence over to Spanish one etc etc ? The roads are fantastic there but be aware that the surface on roundabouts is shiney (worn) and slippy for bikes.

29 and a bit...... I'm too much of a gentleman to say how big the bit is :D

We have bought the bike here and I have a uk driving licence. We have driven round in a hire car, including the Marbella to Ronda road that many manufacturers use for bike launches. In fact, last time we were there, Continental tyres were doing a car tyre launch there. 20-30 performance cars all in Continental colours, while the drivers were frustrated by low cloud and we kept up in a Citroen C3. Sadly that wasn't due to my driving ability.

Insurance is a bit expensive here!! No no claims discount, just 30e off for paying in one hit. To buy the bike they needed my driving licence, NIE number (like our NI number) and a copy of my rent agreement, presumably so they can charge the correct road tax, which varies according to where you live.

I have looked on the interweb. I also have some rather detailed old fashioned paper plans of where the roads go. They're clever, because you can fold them up and only look at one bit at a time. I don't know if they will catch on . I will also use Ride mag's routes. Satan (when you spell check satnav, that's what it offers) will help me there. The details are in the devil :D:D

Once you become "resident" you will be getting a Spanish licence :rob. And you will need to Matriculate the bike :augie. I have a mate that does this for a living not too far from you so when the time comes let me know. She has been doing it for over 15 years. Also why did you choose the area that you are looking at ? Have you looked in other areas ?

Welcome to the costa. like Luke said there are loads of great ride outs, and eateries in the mountains. The white villages will keep you going for years, discovering new one's to visit. Get this weekend out of the way, and the weather should be back to normal, lovely. Enjoy.

I may need a Spanish licence if we stay beyond when my UK licence expires. The bike is a Spanish reg bike sold to me by a Spanish BMW dealer who is sorting all the paperwork. I hope to collect it today or tomorrow :D:D

We chose Fuengirola because we wanted the all year round climate. It gets cold at altitude and snow in southern Spain is common. Fuengirola is a medium sized working town with good facilities and close to Malaga airport so friends and family can visit. We don't plan to live within an English ghetto. We have our first Spanish lesson this morning. The roads and villages round here are spectacular, the food is excellent, the beer and wine cheap and plentiful and there will be lots to admire on the beaches in the summer ;)
We are renting a 4 bedroom flat with a pool and tennis court for £500/month while getting £1100 for our English house. The maths are good!

The sun is due back out today and by next week it will be 20c

What's not to like??
