Do any of you know of a device that can boost the reception of a mobile phone in a house?

Anything at all... even to the point of mounting an external aerial on the roof and amplifiers if needed

I don't know anything about mobile reception so any help on the subject will be great :D

For a mates house in Donegal as it's his second house he doesn't want to put a phone in but use his mobile when he goes over to it... but the area has a bad reception... will just about work with his car kit but not with the phone alone

Probably the only realistic solution is what you've already mentioned..... rig up an external aerial, probably using a car kit. I don't know if there is such a thing as a power amplifier for phones, but I'd imagine that there isn't (CE approval would be very very difficult).

Not sure about teh Republic, but there are Home Mobile solutions where you are supplied with a base station which turns your mobile into a landline, but again that would require some hard wiring.

I have used aerials which plug in to back of phone same as car handset holder does, and also bought Nokia boosters which have tv-type aerials mounted as high as you can go, and have a small aerial sticking out of the box which re-transmits the gsm signal.

It's Donegal it needs to be Ilegal or it can't be fitted :D

he does care if it's approved or not just as long as it boosts the signal :)

I thought there might be some foreign device that would do the job if you're in the KNOW ;)

a bit like the super phones from years ago :D

Captures static electricity like a satelite dish, eh?

I know it sounds like bollox, but they do actually work. I bought some off ebay a couple of years ago, and they certainly improve the signal.

i saw something about covering your fridge door in aluminium foil and connecting it to a wire that you attatched to the phone aerial.

some sort of wavelength dipole ground plane amplifier rozzer hanger dohickey :nenau

Mobile operators are always keen for new sites where coverage is poor. You may even be able to make some money if you offer up your house/garden as a site.

Suggest you contact your mobile operator and ask that it is done, volunteering some roof space for a microsite as the smallest cell transmitters are called.

As an example, I was on hols in Cornwall last year and couldn't get coverage where I was staying in Fowey. On returning home, I mentioned to my pal who is head of radio planning at O2 that he might like to get a cell down there. A few months later they'd got the required permission and installed and commissioned a small cell. Now unfortunately my blackberry works down there :-( Should have thought ahead...

Oi - will you bleedin' quit it with that shite before we all have to go to shaggin' Ulam Abdinidsh-on-Sea with SWMBO and kids to get a few day's rest from the office?

Personally, I take a small quantity of PE on hols in case I happen across a mast or micro-site "handy" to my chosen destination.
