Had one on my bitza for a while......rusted for England; just kept coating in Halfords matt black exhaust paint.

if you are going to use it ...have it ali sprayed ( yes it is a thing ) it will cut down the rusting A LOT , then paint it ...the paint will still fall off ....but you can re-spray it with next to no prep.
