I'm heading over to Ireland via Holyhead on Friday - catching the 1345 ferry. Hopefully I can shove off from London early enough to allow some time for 'exploring' some twisties in N. Wales.

I usually follow the A5 across - does anyone know any decent detours that are worth following?

Ta!

A44 from Oxford to Rhayader, A470 north to meet A5 would provide a scenic route through the Cotswolds, Black Mountains, Brecon Beacons, Cambrian Mountains and Snowdonia.

I've suggested primary roads as it is 300 miles and as you need to be there lunchtime I thought you'd want to make good progress.

Whatch out for the local fuzz if making progress in Wales !

Nah. Fuzz are too expensive. Rarely see a traffic patrol on the A roads during the week.

It's the civilians in their camera vans you need to look out for. They catch more car drivers by operating in a front facing position so rarely trouble bikes. :D

I'm talking about S. & Mid Wales. mtwhobbs is venturing into Brunstrom territory so I'll take a wibble flip on that.

Tappety-tap, Tappety-tap, (Google etc) Tappety-tap........................

Aaahhh! Wot a lovely man. Hope he's standing in the middle of the road with a hairdrier demonstrating how it's done. I'll give him a 1200GS enema! :D

Thanks for the A44/470 tip - I'll fetch my map...
