Not really a computer Q in the true sense..

i am thinking of buying an Iphone4 or S version. At the moment i'm using my HTC wildfire to create a WiFi zone from which i can use an Ipad, therefore using my internet allowance and saving on buying a Sim specifically for the Pad.

Can the same be done from the Apple phones ?? Once i cut that Sim there's no return :blast

I believe ...

... that Toad did a bit of a post on this very subject; try a search on tethering and see what comes up. As I recall, it wasn't straightforward

AFAIK you can, but you either have to pay extra on your phone tariff, or jailbreak and not get caught.

Jailbreak is best option for tethering but the new os5 isn't breakable yet so you would have to wait til one comes out - i do te very same thing with mine but im on the older software, as for sim cutting a replacement sim is usually only a fiver if you need to go back :)

If the sim is cut properly the micro-SIM will go back in the surplus aperture and work as a full SIM.

My data card is used as a micro in my iPad and a full in my mobile broadband dooberrywotsit.

sorry your wrong, its saleslady jailbroken, its a semi tethered jailbreak, not full untethered but it was done within hours of the release.

also you can get a couple of sim converters for putting a micro sim in a normal slot, I got 2 for a £1 on TCR, they work fine for swaping the iphone 4 sim card around.

Yeah but who wants a tethered jailbreak? A big 'ol bag of ball ache if u ask me - I'm sticking with my untethered on the older iOS - but yea u are right I should have clarified the untethered bit

If you are on T Mobile contract you can set up a Personal WiFi hotspot (or tethering) on the Iphone 4.. On my contract there is no extra charge for this - when I was on O2 they did charge extra.

I think this is a Network dependent function.
