My PC is about 6 years old and is struggling to keep up with my hammerings now and my iMac G4 is also showing its age so im gonna get one of those 27" iMac Quad Core jobbies.

Anyone used Paralells to run a windows PC as a virtual machine, will use it for some web design work, a bit of graphics and mapsource etc.... How good is the emulation.

Feedback would be great.

(i will be shifting on the iMac G4 21" soon if anyone's interested once i re-format it etc OS X)

I have the quad core imac 27inch, its a fantastic machine. I also run paralells and use it to run Mapsource and a few games, seems to run everything ok, no problems but wouldnt like to guess if all your programs will work, a couple of mine wont but to be honest its probably something im doing wrong !

I read a few reports with benchmarking tests and paralells rips fusion a new poop hole across the board.... I think paralells is the way to go... Interesting that Mav, your guys love fusion... how do they rate it vs paralells, or have they just never used it?

I've used both and really hated both. Current versions are better.

Unless you really need to run windows apps alongside Mac apps you could just use bootcamp (included on the disk) to dual boot

Hey Chap

Our guys swear by this: http://www.vmware.com/products/fusion/

It allows you to run windows apps without having to come out of OSX, it's like they're running in OSX

Hope that helps

I'd add a vote in favour of Fusion.
It even allows you to grab files from Apple folders and use them in Windows apps. ie. Take a file from Aperture project and use it in Win version of CS4 in real time.
