'Petrol station opens in Applecross tomorrow' - prices to be the same as Loch Carron 18 miles away. Locals have paid for their fuel up front and had sponsored walks (guess how many steps to Loch Carron - 36,000) to raise money for the initial purchase of fuel.

Just thought you'd be interested :blagblah

Good. Nice to see the locals in Applecross are still as community minded as ever.

It would have been a bloody hard push to Loch Carron if you ran out of fuel in Applecross:eek

aye ,the walk had to be abandoned at the head o' the pass fur the bad weather. think i'll get ma sponsor money back

guid luck to them:beerjug:

I was there on the day. Damn near got blown off my bike on the way through Glen Shiel getting there - it was the same weekend that all those fell runners went missing in Cumbria..

On the Saturday, they decided it was too dangerous to continue, when one of the walkers was blown clean off the road, and down the hill, and we all know how steep the hill is, eh?

Not to be defeated, they came down to the inn, had a few beers, then finished the job in the morning. I met them on my way back over the pass in light snow. Despite my explicit instructions for them to take longer steps, I was still 2000 steps below the mark with my guess :)
