Have an appointment this morning for the EWS antenna ring repair/campaign.
While there, does anybody suggest I have the computer upgrades installed on my bike?
Other than the vibratory hand grips over 4000rpm's, the bike runs flawlessly. Just doing the "Ring Thing" because of the campaign call.

I know-I know,...don't fix anything that is not broken,...
...but some members here and at Adv Rider claim computer upgrades made things better. So now I'm curious whether or not to do the same..??...
The bike is an '07 R1200GS Adventure with 18K on the clock.

Surprisingly,a 10K mile trip last year to Alaska an back on a brand new bike that supposedly has all kinds of problems never let me down. And I'm still questioning myself if I should even do the "Ring Thing"..??...
The bike now has 18K miles, and according to all that I've heard and read, I believe I'm past the so called "threshold" of when the EWS occurs.

The begining of October I have a little trip planned to the Blue Ridge Parkway and don't care to have any let downs as in EWS,that could of been prevented. So,hense the "Ring Thing" now.
Thanks to all!!

Why not ask if they'll give you the new one (which they're going to fit anyway) and you can keep it as a spare :)

Tried that and they have some sort of an excuse they need the old part for "warranty claim BS".
Still tho, wondering about the computer upgrades?? Yes or No..?

My advice would be; Do not have the software 'upgrade'. My 1200GS now suffers from excessive vibration that was not there before. North Oxford BMW are taking it back in for the second time to try and fix it. See my other posts for more details.

Appreciate Some Advice Before Appointment

I have the same bike as you and it will be going in for the EWS campaign soon. I would definitely get them to replace the antenna ring with the "247" part. No known failures to date (knock wood). If you can get them to install the ring with ordinary allen headed bolts rather than the security screws (sign an waiver or whatever) that might be a way to go. Will make a future replacement much easier if that idea appeals to you.

I will NOT be updating the software. The balance of opinion from the posts I have read is that the software upgrade is not worth the powder if your bike is basically running o.k. If your bike is a little rough over 4000 rpm check your valve adjustment and synchronization. Remember, you can't go backwards in software if you don't like the result. YRMV. Good luck!
