Hi Guys
Two of us are heading down to Moroc at the end of April - we have 15 days total to ride from London and then south and home!
1 on a KTM Adv and 1 on a Yam Super Ten.
We are not expierenced off roaders but would like to try some 'gentle' pistes.
We reckon 4/5 days down to Algecerias and similar back giving us 5/6 day in Morocco. Any route advice given our time frame would be very useful.
Thanks
p.s No GPS just Michelin maps!!

We’re doing the same. Probably leaving via Dover / Calais on 20th April. We'll be riding an F800GS and a 650 Dakar. Little offroad experience, but the bikes are kitted up. We have no GPS as well.

If you ride the whole way via France, Spain etc, it will take about 4.5 days to get there (so 9 days to Marrakech and back). If you cross from Portmouth to Spain, then you can save a day of riding each way.

I ordered a Rough Guide map to Morocco and i'm pleased i did. It seems to have more detail than the Michelin map.

The routes that we will likely take are;
- Tinerhir to Nekob
- Tazenakht to Zagora
- Tizi-n-Tichka to Ouarzazate via Telouet
- Tahanaoute to Setti-Fatma
- Foum-Zguid to Mhamid
- Tagounite to Erg Chebbi

The last is meant to be very difficult and is about 150 miles long :nenau

BTW - I have no experience of Morocco and have only select the routes above based on books and other postings. They may turn out to be very difficult.

I good book is Sahara Overland by Chris Scott. He has mapped a few routes and tells you about them in his book.

May well pass you on the way. Will watch out for the bikes.

Have fun.

Rgrds,
Steve.

You can ...

... do Algerciras in two days if you want to, from Calais. It just depends how much time you wish to spend in Morocco. Have a look at Steptoes Moroccan dash for details.

Hi Steve,
Thanks for the info.
We're on the Dover-Calais boat on Friday 17th, so hope to get to Southern Spain by Tuesday/Wednesday ish!
I went to Morocco about 15 years ago trekking so know a little about the terrain/culture etc, but reckon it's probably changed alot since then.
We have a Michelein map but may well invent in a rough guide too.
I'll study the route you guys are doing and see what it looks like.
Here's to a good trip.

Have fun and ride safe.

Cheers
