... when it fell off the seat and dropped about two foot between my bike and sidecar - didn't even get to the ground, just caught up in the fixings.

Question is, although it is only a smallish chip (which shows up white on the black helmet), does this now mean that the helmet is no good or if I paint the white bit black will the chip then disappear????

(This happened just after I'd won the prize for best BMW at the Laxey Bike Show during TT fortnight - maybe this is a sign to get a mandarin coloured helmet to match the bike. If I paint it mandarin, the black and white bits will all disappear)

Shoulda gone to the Arai helmet service stand behind the grandstand - I did, got a new top vent fitted free to my Corsair :D

Send an email to Phoenix NW, Arai Europe or your nearest 5-star Arai dealer and ask them :nenau

my newish freeway blew off the table in my yard onto the concrete recently.

scratched but i won't be replacing it.

or my previously unmarked tour-x that fell off the bike mirror in a petrol station in wales earlier this year :spitfire

Is your head worth more than a new helmet? If you don't replace it it will be in the back of your mind till you do replace it
It may be a different matter if it had dropped hard onto concrete but seriously, is there anybody out there with a regularly used helmet in mint condition? :nenau Surely every used helmet is going to have a few minor scratches / nicks in it. I know my Arai has (when I bumped it on the wall while using the ATM) :blast but will I be replacing it .... err ... No.

helmet damage

Polly filla. (also good for stuffing parrots).

Worry not about it,unless it's my size,in which case you should give it to me for safe disposal, and buy a new one:thumb2

I don't think the incident as you describe it would have done any structural damage to an Arai. My VX Pro has loads of chips and scratches on it from being used to fend tree branches off with, and I still trust it's ability to protect my bonce. I have thrown one helmet away, but that was after a fairly large off, resulting in mild concussion and a 'kin big lump on the side of my head. The polystyrene on the inside of the helmet had compressed, doing it's job, for the once only it was designed for.
Go for the mandarin paint job, and then be more careful.:thumb

FFS - it a motorcycle helmet ...

It protects you head is case of an accident - I believe that there must be no damage at 28 mph for it to pass certification

Do you really think it needs replacing after it has dropped 2 feet and has reached about 3 miles an hour ... or do you just want to buy a newie?
