Hi All just about to renew my Arai tour x 3 anyone had a Shoei DS? Wondered how the two compaired always found the inside of the Arai gets damaged by velcro and stubble !

Went from a very old TourX 1? (circa 2002) to a Shoei DS Hornet early last year and from that comparo id say if you can afford the new TourX (seems expensive mind) go for it as it might be a better quality product.

My hornet is regularly shedding its inner liner when removed
The placcy bits around the visor opening easily come adrift requiring re-seating with various little tabs that go under and over each other needing to be re-aligned.
The visor peak isnt as shading as it is on the tourx

other than that the shoei is a nice lid but I also wish they hadnt ditched the seatbelt strap clasp... much prefered it to double d loops.

Tour X , on my 3rd. Love them . Mines been all over the world from India , himalayas and Cambodia. Comfortable and good in the hot or cold and very good when you come off and hit your head!!! The Arai you can rebuild the interior and if the strap frays they will put a new one on FOC. I think you are either an Arai or Shoei shaped head so try before you buy . I'd go for the Tour X again :thumb2

I've got both and prefer my Hornet. It's lighter, better ventilated and the finish of the shell is better. As to the fit, it's the only Shoei that is comfortable for me, so the shape is similar to the Tour X, ie closer to long oval than the usual round Shoei interior.

I also don't suffer so much from the dreaded drumming peak and vibrating eyeballs in the Hornet as I do in the Tour X.

The downside is that black visors aren't available for the Hornet. I fitted a light smoke with a dark Pinlock insert to ride half-way across the USA last year.

I also have both and am ashamed to find myself agreeing with Schtum :blast

I think the outer shell of the Shoei is better. It seems sturdier, the vents are stronger, the peak is more rigid.

I like the look of my Arai (Motard black with a dark visor - looks brill..), but I've had to replace broken diffuser vents and I see one of the others already has a crack in it.

The Shoei is more rugged. :thumb2

+1, I have both also, and completely agree with Schtum on all his points, as well as the cracked diffuser as mentioned above.

Great feed back thanks, i havent tried the shoei on the road but it did feel lighter i usualy take a Medium size but tried a large shoei and it felt comfortable stright away are they sized slightly small ? any differance in noise on the road ?

Same as my experience with the sizing. My Arais are Medium and my Hornet's a Large.

Another option for you, X-lite.
I can't vouch for it against the others, as I haven't owned either, but it is quieter than my Arai Quantum, and has a pinlock visor as standard. I've only had mine for a couple of months, but seems ok so far.
