Did a search but it brought up only a couple of old threads which weren't very conclusive.
What's the verdict?

If you can find someone who'll paint them with two-pack epoxy, you should get a better and more durable finish than with powder coat.

Ok.
One auto painter I spoke with thought painting is better and another reckons powder coating but doing a bit of online research it looks like painting would be the way to go...

I was advised that because of the heat involved in the powder coating process you would also need to factor in the cost of new wheel bearings

Over the years I've had numerous bike rims either powder coated or painted and both have advantages and disadvantages.
With powder coating providing it is done properly and the bearings are changed it is an easy clean smart option but it is brittle and tyre changes are fraught with the danger of cracking the coating. Once this is done it cannot be retouched and looks c***. Corrosion then starts and quickly spreads under the coating.
Two pack is fine after blasting but if it is chipped and corrosion starts under the paint it will flake off in large lumps.
I've found that the best bet is to either paint or powder coat the centre of the wheels and spokes but leave the outer lip of the rim polished. It will be easy re polish with solvol or similar and there are no problems at tyre changes.
I've done half a dozen wheels like that with the centres sprayed using cellulose in the last couple of years and the finish is standing up better than the powder coated ones.
