Are dealers not bothered about selling new bikes?

I called at a BMW dealer the other day...I`m thinking of replacing my, nearly, two year old 650GS with a new one as they are`nt making them any more. I got the distinct impression that they were`nt that bothered about selling me one.
Is there not enough profit in the 650GS to make it worth their while?

Do they make so much from clothing, parts and servicing to render new sales ancillery to their business?

I really like my 650GS but I`m starting to look round at (non BMW) alternatives.

A sales droid will be disinterested for one of 2 reasons: a) the bike you want is not available b) you are not convincing as a customer e.g. vague about purchase date or asking for an unrealistic trade in value. Probably 90% of the people who walk into the showroom fall into category b as they are just passing time whilst the cat is neutered etc.

If the bike is in short supply why not ring around other dealers to see if there is stock? If your current GS is really likeable why not keep it? They are not known as fragile long term bikes, are they?

If you want a sales droid to fawn all over you then get along to a Suzuki, Kawasaki, Honda or Yamaha dealer. You'll probably get a big discount and/or 0% finance as they seem to be struggling to make sales this year and are filling the press with special deal ads.

Don't buy one in France, my dealer is doing me a favour by relieving me of £11.5K!

If you mean that you weren`t constantly pestered by some smarmy cheesebag every two minutes, then I`d see that as a plus point in BMW`s favour.

It`s far better to be left in peace to browse the machinery and then ask for advice if it`s needed.

Dave, you could do no worse than giving Russ Cole at Clarks BMW in Rednal, Birmingham. He is a smashing bloke and was a UKGSer before he became a BMW sales person. That's if you don't mind a bit of a trek out of Yorkshire of course.

I dont care who sells it to me...I`ll check my passport is still valid and perhaps give him a visit.
