Question is in the title........

My remus is melting the edge of my current plate, so I thought I might look at getting a metal number plate to overcome the problem.

Are these legal if made to the legal size with legal fonts, or do they have to be plaggy??

.. and the right size.

I think the reason plastic is used is the cost, and he ability to knock one up in 5 minutes.

TBH I like the idea of a metal plate, if you find a supplier at reasonable cost can you post the details or even a link ?

For what it's worth I had the same problem of melting number plates (BOS system) so I made a metal plate slightly smaller than the numberplate and attached that to the plate-hanger then fixed the numberplate on with spacers to make an insulating air gap between the numberplate and the metal plate. Errr, does that make sense? Anyway it works.
