Are the 'Triple Black' bikes a different Spec?

I have a 2015 GSA in 'Alpine White' and I don't feel any compulsion to refer to it on the forum by it colour, so why do 'Triple Black' owners feel the need to quote that they've got a GS/GSA Triple Black?

I haven't researched it thoroughly, so perhaps there are mayor spec differences, but I was under the impression that the 'Triple Black's' are the same fundamental bikes as all the other colours.

Have I missed something?

Don't think you are. Mostly it's a blend between a dick swinging contest and being accurate on the forums as everyone's a nerd and wants to know exactly what you have/are talking about. I tell people I have "a GS" I don't bother mentioning that it's an adventure or a triple black but on the forum I do.

I'm also on a watch forum and there they won't even say which watch they have, they speak only in reference numbers. Bit confusing.

Then the newbies photo's on their driveway usually dressed like Ewan McGreggor moaning about rust bubbles.

I do.

When you look at the BMW website it shows a hierarchy of bikes, the Triple Black is the one with everything on it.

So, if someone treats themselves to the 'top of the range' model and it is usually a treat, they want to make it a noteable thing.

However, in this instance all the bikes can be specced up to the same level.

Its cute marketting on BMW's behalf as lots of people will go for the perceived top of the range.

It is top of the range, but it isn't at the same time.

You wait for the shit storm if they ever do a limited edition with a gold brass plaque on the tank cover... and a gold plated Mudsling.

If you want the fully specced version of the GS in this country you buy the TE version. It is my impression that the Triple Black is simply a special edition TE, with the main difference being a different paint job, and I suspect, as with other bike and car manufacturers, that special editions are released primarily to maintain interest and sales in an outgoing model before it is superceded.

Thanks for that, in Spain the GS/GSA is available in all the colours and then you spec the bike to how you want it, I've not see any 'Triple Black' bikes down here because black isn't popular due to the amount of sun we get.

Strangely 'red' is the more expensive paint option down here although there is an additional 'Triple Black' premium which I assume pays for the embroidered seat!

I bought a GS Iconic limited edition 'cos I liked the colour scheme, seems to be a high spec like the triple black, mine's a tri colour red white and blue!

Great bike, just done 3000 miles in 10 glorious days around the French/Swiss/Italian Alps and the Black Forest, kept up with a mate on his Pikes Peak Multistrada no problem at all...!

Best thing I fitted for the trip was the touring Puig screen, allowed open visor riding up to 3 figure speeds.
