I'm moving to Linz soon and wondered if there are any Austrian GS'ers. All I hear is that in Austrian bikers put their bikes away for the winter. Most of this I hear from my girlfriends family but I know the GS spirit burns strong despite the conditions. :thumb

So if there are any Oberösterreich riders it would be good to hear from you.

Best regards

When my mate was in Germany with the RAF, he said most of the locals put their bikes away in the winter, as the insurance was so expensive. So they only used to insure them for the road in the summer months.

Could be the case in Austria too maybe?

'course I could be wrong:)

That is certainly something I will have to look into. No point in insuring the bike if I am up to my eyeballs in snow. Well not the 800 anyway. I might have to go orange when I arrive in Osterreich anyway. "Something lighter for the winter sir?":roll

I worked in Brno in the 90's and it snowed in Novermber and only by February was it safe to go out on the roads at all. I had my first ride out to Brno Lake and it was still frozen. All the local bikers put their bikes away.

The same was true for Niederösterreich across the border from Znojmo/Mikulov. I went to the Suzuki dealers in Wolkersdorf to the north of Vienna I was on the only bike being ridden by a customer. I needed a new battery and it was easier to ride there than mess about with public transport across the International border.

I'd expect Linz to be sort of the same.

Near Linz

Since you are moving to Linz, You will be within 40km of British only.

When you get settled in, go & pay then a visit.
Your eyes will pop out on stalks whn you see what he has for sale.
Better than any museum trip.
You may also get to meet some of the locals. There are 2 bike nut friends of mine living within 1 km of there.

wow that is amazing. Some of those models look as if they're worth much more than he is asking for them.

I spotted two similar bikes at a garden centre in Cheshire last month. they were rusting away in an old yard at the back. I'm no expert but they were of the vintage of some of these bikes!

Thanks for the myke :beerjug:

I'll be over your way tomorrow. I'm on my way to have a bimble with Si Johnson. :beerjug:
