Are There Tolls

Someone mentioned to me about costs of riding in the alps and a daily pass? I have spent all evening searching t'internet and apart from toll roads, which seem quite easy to avoid, have found no other costs.

When riding the passes are there any tolls or national park fees?

Your answers will all be appreciated, cheers peeps.

Austrian and Swiss motorways have a toll, if that is what you mean. Buy a carnet.

Some passes are in effect private roads, so have a toll.

Some tunnels have specific tolls, for instance the Mont Blanc tunnel.

Some large bridges have tolls.

Timmelsjoch and Gross Glockener are both toll roads and is additional to the Austrian vignette. There's a few others around, have a look here:

In France & Italy you get tolls on some motorways. Pay as you go in toll booths. No tolls in the Alps unless you use one of the main tunnels.

In Switzerland: you need a toll sticker called a Vignette to use the motorways. Expensive as you can only get an annual one for 40CHF. Sometimes you can get one on here for a lot less. No tolls on any CH passes I have used.

In Austria & Slovenia you need a vignette to use their motorways. Cheap to buy as you can get short period ones. A 10 day one in Austria is under 5 euros. Most petrol stations sell them.

Due to the terrain, it is difficult to cover large distances in Austria and Switzerland without using motorways.

Germany seems free of tolls.

Some Alpine passes have tolls as they are private roads e.g. Grossglockner, Timmelsjoch & Gerlos in Austria. Some long tunnels, especially in Austria have tolls.

Hi

Stay at our place for two nights or more and we will give you a free pass for not only the Grossglockner (18 Euros) but also for the Nockalmstrasse, Maltahochalmstrasse and many more. We now have more than 30 day routes, both on Garmin and printed, so there is plenty to do in our area.
Austrian vignette is 4.50 euros for ten days this year. Only needed for motorways though.

John- counting the days until I can get back on the bike, its minus 4 at the moment so I think I will have to wait a while
