I have a 2007 250EXC-F, recently bought second-hand and am working my way through some non-standard settings on suspension and such like.
Having revertedto standard settings on rebound and compression damping front and rear, I have noticed a near-lethality in on-raod handling. It is not noticeable off-road, but on anything above low/medium-speed cornering there is a strong feeling of understeer, it feels like the front is going to continue in a straight line, kicks slightly to th eoposite direction, then sort of steers in the desired ( and by now very wished for) direction.
I have tried using on (1.5/2.0) and off (1.0/1.0) road prerssures, but the above effect is still there, and checked the steering head bearings, the most likely culprit given the effect. But still this persists.
One thing I have noted is that the rear tyre is a 14/80-18, shoe-horned on to the 2.15" rim. KTM specs say it should be a 120/80; front is correct at 90/90-21.
Could the overize rear be a cause of this? I know that Metzeler SixDay Extremes are probably not the best tyre for use on the road, but cannot avoid tarmac routes to and from local green-lanes.
