Couldn't see and appropriate Forum section for this, so as 'armchair adventuring' is about technically equiping your mind - have posted it here!

Thought it would be a good idea to share views on book/video/DVD collections, as if like me, you only have limited time each year to do what you enjoy best - I have to resort to 'living it' through others experiences the rest of the year...

Mike

Surely if you did'nt read and watch that lot, you would have time to ride your bike more often

I know where Mike is coming from ... I suspect that the majority of us are 'wilfully' imprisoned by mortgage/job/kids etc, so the 'big trip' remains a dream for the future ... RTW porn helps to assuage the longing ...

Wish I'd done it years ago now ... but I was skint and stupid(er) then ...

Two Wheels Through Terror - Glen Heggstad (Striking Viking on ADVRider)

Great list though - I'm scouring Amazon as I type :thumb

And don't forget his thread over on Advrider......a great read and a good night's scrolling to get through :thumb

(Striking Viking Bumming the world or somethijg very similar)

Have heard of the other two recommendations, by Helge Pederson and the 'Striking Viking' but not the one you've sugggested Steptoe. Did a quick search on Amazon and read the reviews, but it doesn't sound like a 'road' book - still a good read???

Mike,
Thats quite a list, I have met some of the authors and had them signed thier books.
Can you list your top 5 books and top 5 Vids.

Books
Against the Wind by Ron Ayres, he also has written anothers about long distance riding, but I have not got those, Against the Clock and Going the extra Mile. There maybe more from him.

DVD
Iceland - from GlobeRiders / Touratech

He's in a hired volvo for some of the journey :D :D -

it's better than most "road" books .

Activmoto - everyones tastes are different, but my personal top 5 from my collection are:

Books - Running with the Moon (have met Jonny - top bloke)
Triumph around the World (Robbie is obviously quite mad, no map just a world atlas!!)
Two Wheels to Adventure
Odyssey to Ushuaia
Obsessions Die Hard (Ed crosses the Darien gap)

DVD/Videos - Mondo Enduro (mad Brits around the world on aged DR350s)
Terra Circa
Long Way Round (some people criticise, but hey they did it)
Desert Riders
Miles Ahead

The 5 are in no particular order.

Mike
