What a great day, I descided to explore an area Im not too familliar with, and once I started realized I don't know at all, Its the mountains between Halifax and Huddersfield. I started at Saltair and worked my way over to Shelf, Ripponden, Marsden and Holmfirth. Only 55 miles but it took 2-1/2 hours due to the roads. Plenty of cobbled mill roads unsuitable for motors but still passable.
Not an area to rush off to for a grand tour but well worth an afternoon exploring.
I know they are not true mountains but the hairpin bends and steep roads are more severe than many Alpine passes. There is a Village called Mountain with 360 views over the southern Pennines, and a Harrier Jump jet parked in a farmyard.
