Assess my route please?

I personaly would leave out the middle section ,and opt for the more easterly option ,I would hate to miss the Glenshee road and over the Lecht. The stretch from Fort Bill to Inverness up loch Ness ,can be slow going ,you have also missed out the Invergarry to the Kyle section,(probably the best bike road in Britain.I know its not easy as there are great sections in your central plan ,we ride these roads every week but the road over the back of the Cairngorms is special,And you can always pop in for a cupa wi auld Lizzie and Phillip.:beerjug:

....... Strathalidale is nice, but the Toungue-Altnaharra road (A836) is very scenic, but I can't understand why it is designated "A" - it isn't suitable for caravans! (lack of passing spaces)...

And don't ride past the Crask Inn without stopping for sustenance

When you get to Inverness rather than go South on the A82 you could consider taking the A96 TO Nairn then the A939 to Grantown on Spey (nice wee B&B there if you need a bed for the night) continue on to Tomintoul on the A939 to it's junction with the A944 turn right and then join the B976 this will bring you out at Crathie on the A93 hang a right and follow it to Braemar continue on the A93 and then onto the B950 this takes you thru to Kirkmicheal then onto Pitlochry. If you still had time I would then head North on the A9 to Dalwhinney A889 then the A86 to Spean Bridge rejoin the A82 and head south thru Fort William and on to Rannochmoor and Glencoe when ye get to Crianlarich you have the choice of the A85/84 to Stirling and the motorway should that be your desire.

just my 2p's worth Sorry it's a bit long but the roads and the scenery are FANTASTIC (The Lecht and Glen Shee are amazing but don't tell anyone)

Ride Safe and enjoy the run :oonyack

Ok I think my route will take some more thinking then :blast

Maybe you locals should develop a Top 10 list of routes in Scotland and post them here for planners like me? :thumb2

I'll be back when I've more time in front of mapsource...

This route mixes beautiful scenery with great roads, and is just short of 900 miles, starting at Dumbarton and ending up near Stirling.

5 nights should do it easy?

Can't help it - I have a preference for the west coast............... :o

An Area on my doorstep, but not that familiar with, apart from the B743 Strathaven to Muirkirk road :thumb

Another favourite is the Dukes Pass which has a choice of tarmac or off road routes :thumb Makes a nice run from Motorrad Central West at Bishopbriggs, up through Lennoxtown, Fintry, Arnprior, Port of Montieth then Aberfoyle near where the Dukes Pass starts. The Dukes Pass is the A821 between Aberfoyle and Kilmahog (on junction with A85 just North of Callander)). Its a good run in either direction, and could be an alternative end to the route Blackal suggested

Watch out - Mapsource has you taking a mountain track between The Mound and Bonar Bridge

You should be on the A949 from Clashmore to Bonar Bridge :thumb2

Isn't the mountain track preferable on a F800GS :nenau

What I didn't include in the pic is my final day around Kielder - many fond memories of the midges there - I think by the end of May the 12m Forest Drive is open again for vehicles (£2 toll). Looking forward to that too.

Funny how similar my route is to yours Blackal :oonyack But I did opt for Duke's Pass on the way back, I like the forests :clap:clap:clap

I did the road (points 6 - 1 on my map) from Tyndrum - Oban - Balloch the other week - a brilliant run :thumb

Well since I first started this thread I have changed jobs and barely had time to run in the 800GS. My company keeps posting me to Singapore :(

Anyhoo...I'm in the UK and heading North on Friday...finally will get to see all these 'best roads' everyone keeps talking about.

Have the midges gone yet?
