Assume rear shock has died

My bike is showing nearly 40K with about 15K on the (warranty replaced) rear shock. After 5K in my hands, I'm sure going off par - sport is harsh and comfort feels sloppy.

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, think I need a trip to Clarke's on Tuesday my ESA shock, on my august 2010 gsa with 23000 miles appears to be bost!!!, got the extended warranty so will see what happens.

Feels like my rear ESA shock has gone again just 4 months and 5k miles after it was replaced under warranty. No oil leaks, just harsh/bouncy ride again and it bottoms out. Hopefully this will be a no fuss warranty replacement again as part failed prematurely. Bike 26 months old but with BMW extended warranty.

Hopefully BMW will fix at no cost to me and if/when the shocks go again, assuming I don't extend the warranty, I will change to Wilber ESA shocks which so many people on this forum rate very highly, and they cost less than the standard BMW ESA shocks.

Extending your warranty won't help - shocks are only covered up to 30k miles.

Fit a Wilbers from Revs Racing. It's warranted for 3 years if they service it every year. That might sound questionable but considering what shocks have to do for a living it makes sense to change the oil and clean everything out. I'm surprised BMW did not fit rebuild-able shocks.

Saying all that the BMW shock *can* be rebuilt by a suspension specialist though Revs wont offer the service. TBH, having used one on a different bike, I would rather put the money towards a proper Wilbers unit.

Fit a Wilbers from Revs Racing....
I've concluded that's exactly what I'm going to do as soon as I get to a point where BMW say I've got to pay for the replacement shocks. Fortunately, when I took my bike to BMW today they said they would replace the rear shock again under warranty as it shouldn't have failed within 4 months of being replaced. Phew!

The reviews on Wilbers are excellent so I'm very curious to see just how good they are as and when my time comes. :beerjug:

+1 for allbike engineering in Grenwich.I had my ESA shock repaired for £100 5000 miles ago.Perfect.:thumb
