Hi all,

I have finally managed to get my ownership details attached to a V5 for an 1150. I just wanted to say a quick thank you for all the info and 'wisdom' that i've gleaned over the 18 - 24 months that i've been trawling the forum whilst attempting to beg/borrow/steal (i ended up doing the middle one, as the former didn't work and the latter isn't an option) sufficient funds to buy one. I've found a 2000 model in my favourite colour (no, no clues) - which i'm aware that a lot of you don't seem favour (suits me) - courtesy of CW. It's got high mileage (50K) hence being able to 'afford' it but again that suits me too - at least i know it's been used for decent journeys rather than subjected to short, infrequent ones and all the associated long-term problems that this can lead to.

Now i'm engrossed in trying to purchase and subsequently find time to fit all the mods that i've had info on from the site. Top of the list is a replacement screen. despite being a short-arse (5'6") i find the standard one totally unacceptable for wind buffeting etc. Opting for a Cee Bailey's one, once i've decided on dimensions (obviously width more important than height). Then lights, although i was surprised they were as good as they were given the amount everyone seems to despise them.

Main question though is intercoms. I need one. I'm prepared to opt for the Autocom (if i have to - £352 for the bike powered rider/pillion kit is fairly steep) but i'm also looking at the Graytronics 120B (£200 for a 'similar' set-up). They offer a 30 day money back guarantee so i'm likely to try them first, but does anyone have one and would you endorse the performance???

Thanks once again for all the info. i look forward to joining in again - both in person (when i can ride it well enough, find the right switches etc) and on the forum,

Cheers

Johnny,

welcome aboard. The price you quote for an Autocom set up seems a little high. I paid £220 for a pro M 7 at the NEC last year, that included a headset, headset lead and power lead. I bought a second headset (with extra loud speakers) for £45 in Jan this year.

Give Autocom a ring, you'll probably find they'll do a discount 'show' price if you ask them nicely (their number is 01926 431249).

I don't know anything Graytronics kit, but would advise you that I've spent hundreds of pounds over the years trying to avoid the inevitable and buy Autocom - before I resigned myself to the inevitable. They are expensive, but they do work and their after sales service has, in my experience, been excellent (one of the connectors on my headset failed & they replaced it without quibble by return of post).

HTH

Can't help you on the intercom, but rather than fork out millions of dollars on a Cee Bailey screen, together with it's associated import duty, why not try a set of Tobinators first? Seems to work for most people that have tried them.

Try these.

www.intaride.com

Much cheaper than autocom. Bl***y good value bike to bike kit.

£178 for 2 sets.

They are bringing out a mobile phone / music adaptor in September.

Can probably meet & show you the kit as you work in Camborne.

Hi All,

Thanks for the welcome and the advice. I'll certainly check out the 'cheaper' autocom options to see if they're still current. Mark if you're around, then it'd be good to meet up and have a look at your coms system. probably have to be next week though, unless you can make thursday night. I can meet you anytime after about 6.30pm most evenings. Weekends i tend to disappear off back up to taunton.

As for the screen i haven't tried adjusting the standard screen yet. I have noted all the positive comments about the Tobinators and quite willing to save as much money as possible - as long as the end result meets my requirements, so doubtless i'll be investigating all options shortly - just as soon as i've established what the standard bike is like for a while.

Cheers for now

Adventure version

Cor blimey - the hassle I get from you lot.

The Adventure version has been started in earnest now. Many thanks to Charlie Batty for the loan of his Adventure screen and mounting points.

Me and the slightly crazy Richard (with the CNC machines), his crazier mate Richard, and the rather wayward Wayne spent some time on Saturday going over potential designs. The best option is just to ditch the big plastic mounting which is causing all the hassle, and machine up a fantastic web-like structure of infinite lightness to replace it, and at the same time solve the non-parallel holes problem.

However, sticking to the "keep it simple and above all cheap" adage to which I subscribe, we've ditched this idea. It'd look pretty trick though, especially in a nice shade of metallic light green.

So, back to the previous favourite which is the bits of plate to paralellise the non-parallel hole mounting area. Then the Tobinator legs need to have a dog-leg in them to compensate for the extra width of the plates.

As a further bastard complication, the holes in the Adventure screen itself are angled, to I've got to figure that out as well so the plate bits have studs coming out at the correct angles.

I hope you are all seeing just how complicated this is now, and are feeling very sorry for me. It keeps me awake at nights, it really does. I've stopped having sex with the wife as well, though some sort of alloy riser attachment could help out there too.

And no, you cant have a gold one dammit.

I'll keep you posted, and possibly put up some pictures of the characters involved in this mega-saga.

Cheers

(ps - you can NEVER have enough yellow about. You should see the workshops down here. I'm getting the beams and stanchions painted yellow too. Cheers me up - especially as i'm not on the end of the spray gun)
(pps - i LIKE yellow, in case you hadn't realised [sorry Judge - i only say that out of a sense of courtesy, as naturally you'll appreciate that i'm not actually sorry at all])

...

so do i :D

Yellow. It is the colour to be seen on. I notice that UKGSer.com is the same colour too. Must be the impact it has!!:D

Recommend Intaride

As someone else said, I have used Intaride radios on a couple of bike/helmets and they a brilliant. Try a set for yourself and talk to other bikes as well.
