Hi all!

Would love some advice...

My lovely 07 Dakar has been knocked over by what I think was a car clipping the front wheel when pulling off from its parked position. The bike is on the pavement with the bike leaning towards a lamp post which I chain it to.

Still with me?

Amazingly the side stand had broken???? and the bike had slumped against the lamp post. As the steering lock was on it pulled the bike into the post.

Aside from a small chip on the 'tank' and snapped stand it seems ok...

The screen however seems to have shifted? :blast

Turning the bars to full lock the screen now catches slightly on both side?

As anyone got any ideas as to what might have happened and a fix????

I have taken the screen on and apart from a slightly bent screw can't see any problems?

Would love some advice - equally and good recommendations on center stands too!

Thank you!

Al:)

Hi

Bad luck, presume there are no witnesses?

The stand could be welded, depending on where the breakage actually is.

If the screen is being touched by the bars on left & right lock, I would suspect that the bars have been twisted. Slacken the mounting bolts, reposition the bars & retighten the bolts.

Center stands are very useful for servicing & security. Check out Motobins & Motoworks for availability (links in the forum heading).

If you want some welding done, try the land line number in my signature, where Dave should help. (Mon - Fri 8 - 5, Sat 8 - 12)

Hi Wilbur,

thank you for your advice! I have a good look at the bars and can't see that they have been twisted. I get the impression that its the 'head' where the screen mounts to that may have moved but I can't see how???

I am hoping that some new screws will resolve the problem?

Thank you for the heads up with the contact for the welding!

Can't wait to get back on the road!!!

Oh and no - no witnesses!

cheers!:beerjug::beerjug::beerjug:

:blast I would say that the screen would break before the framing bends, what you might find is that the brake arrangement might have shifted it would be worth adjusting the side that it is catching on and see if that makes a difference.
