Just got back from mine and a mates annual trip to the Alps and it was one of the best.
We normally move on to a new hotel ever night but this time we ended up at the Hotel Fernblick in a small village called Fiss in Austria and it was EXCELLENT.
The owner Andi and Silvia were every friendly and helpful and the place in set up for bikers (Andi is bike mad!). Massive garage with locker for your gear, tools, jet wash and a drying room if you have wet gear.
We had ridden from the UK and and had come over a few passes in the snow and on a few mornings had got up to find it snowing....... If we had not stayed at the Hotel we would have ended up riding our planned route in lots of bad weather.
Andi's local knowledge pointed us in the right direction and we set off (in the snow) heading for the Dolomites. Within 45 mins we were in sunshine and on some great roads that we would have never found without Andi's pointing us in the right direction.
On another day we went on a guided tour with Andi, and it has to be one of the best days I have had in the Alps. Again Andi's local knowledge linked up excellent road after excellent road and from pass to pass. The whole day was around 350km and was great fun. I would have happily paid for this day but Andi does it for the fun of riding and the pleasure of showing other riders a great day out.
If you are ever in the Austrain Alps, Tirol or Dolomites region I would HIGHLY recommend staying a few day at the Hotel Fernblick in Fiss Austria.
