I have the easi 7 advance system for rider to pillion. My mate and I would like bike to bike. Can someone tell me what I need extra and the best and easiest way to go about it. The autocom is not wired to the bike but is in portable mode that suits me fine. My mate also has the same system. Sorry if this has been asked before and I await your replies. Thank you, Ricky.

If you go to the Autocom site there is a listing of what you need .

basically all you require is a pmr (walkie talkie) icom or kenwood are good .

speak to greg masters he had a couple recently .

then a lead to the autocom from the pmr and a ptt(push to talk button) you can have it set to vox (voice activated transmit)

but i dont think that is as reliable.

the whole set-up can go in a tank bag.

hope this helps .

i have the same system..you need to get the kenwood radio..
dont bother with the push to talk . the voice activated system is spot on..would recommend you fit the auto com to the bike as you end up with loads wires to plug in etc..if you r on an 1150 the best place to put it is under the tank directly in front of the seat (seat off )..then u can have the plug for headset and radio coming out between seat and tank..the kenwood has a clip on it that i use to attacth it to the head lamp cover so u dont have to keep it in your pocket...only downer with kenwood is its not powered from the bike , but it does have rechargeable battery..

dont expect too much range from this as it is affected by the terrain and weather conditions..a good rule of thumb is if u can see your mate u can hear him..i found autocom claims about range a bit stretched..tehey are probably for ideal conditions

:beerjug:

cheers

Icom and kenwood can both be powered direct from the bike .

:D :D

get a car, and take turns to drive - you can have radio, CD, i-pod, heat and talk to each other - works out cheaper than auto-com, walkie talkie, heated clothing, earplug speakers leads and plugs

Go for the Kenwood TK-3101 or 3201.

I had a few, but none spare at the moment.

Bike to Bike Radios

Powerhouse were selling off thier BT Freeway FM radios for £20 a pair. I picked up a couple of sets, then ordered the wires for them from Autocom.

One lead plugs into the top of the radio and then the Autocom.
Set the radio to VOX operation and chat away.

I also bought the Push to Talk lead for my bike and you have the button on the Left hand grip.

Of course, If your riding buddy hasn't got Auto Com, you can use the single ear plug and mike that comes with the radio and set set the Radio to VOX. Charge the batteries before the ride out, they last for days anyway!

We've had no problems at all with this, and it really makes a difference!!

Radio wise you will generally get what you pay for, the legal power output for PMR in UK is .5 watts, and the antenna must not be remoteable.

Motorola do a pair of PMR radios for £60 including rechargable batteries. The Cables these require to connect to the Autocom are £15 each (they're only about 50cm long which will limit radio positioning, but you can buy extensions).

I have this set up because I owned the radios already. I've not used it in anger, but have used the radios in other applications and have been happy with performance.

If you are going to spend more, then consider theIntaride.com offering. £130 each or thereabouts, and they do a model on which yo can increase power output (which is illegal) and remote the antenna (which is illegal). They do, bike power adapters and Autocom connection leads. I can't recall the prices.

I've nothing to do with Intaride but will be heading their way if the Motorola disspoint in the bike-to-bike use.

I was in Autocom in Warwick on Friday and they now have a pair of Motorola bike to bike radios for £60 the pair. Range about 3 miles with rechargeable batteries. It is model T5422 see HERE
