Autocom and Zumo?.

Could anyone tell me If the Zumo 550 will connect to a Autocom or Is It for Bluetooth only connection??.
I am in the market for a 2720 but the Zumo looks great on paper and i am willing to wait, And the pr-order price is attractive also?, which is why I need to know of any required extras needed?.

Our information is that Zumo has a 2.5mm audio jack AND Bluetooth.........

Technically the Zumo is very close in spec to the Nuvi and althoughit ispossible to pair with Bluetooth enabled helmets, the main function is to connect it to a Bluetooth phone.

Perhaps Dutchman has more (insider) info than me, but looking at the Zumo shown on the garmin website it does not look like there is a audio out jack anywhere look at http://www.garmin.com/zumo/ then "view" and "360" gives a reasonable idea of what the thing looks like. Also, the advertising blurb does not mention an audio out jack at all.

However, I don't believe that they would provide a bluetooth only solution - there are far too many folk in their target market using autocom/starcom/etc who require an audio out feed.

What I do think they MIGHT have done (at least it would make most sence to me) is to provide all the connections (power/audio/external aerial/etc) through the multiplug on the bottom of the unit and then all the other cables plug into the mount - much like a docking station for a laptop. This would also solve the problem of having to unplug all the bits when taking the GPS off the bike.

Of course this is pure specualtion until someone gets one to play with.

Although we are Authorised Garmin dealers, the information we currently have about the Zumo is hardly more than that in the public domain.

However, after yesterday's postings we made further enquiries & were assured that a 2.5mm jack is provided within the mounting cradle.

I think you'll find that the power & audio cables terminate at the cradle, leaving internal battery power to enable use away from the bike.

I think Garmin are trying to learn lessons from the TomTom Rider, whose Bluetooth only offering is a bit of a disaster for those wanting to link to onboard comms systems. Expect the TomTom Rider 'European' to have a 2.5mm jack in it's revised power cradle from October or thereabouts.......

Was at the Autocom factory today. One of the fitters is deliberately avoiding the 2820 and waiting for the Zumo - the main reasons being the SD expansion card for music and size. Based on this, I think you can be assured that the Zumo will connect to Autocom.
