Hi,

I am about to fit the following to the R1200 GS, and based on the various threads here it seems using the manual holder is the optimal place. What I am wondering is whether the BT adaptor could be mounted under the seat and still work effectively with the Zumo & phone. Has anyone tried this?

As I am doing this myself and am somewhat inexperienced the fewer things I can avoid moving/removing the better.

I am guess that the (better) alternative might be to mount this under the "beak" in the front with some velcro and then run the cables under the tank back to the manual holder. I think this means taking most of the trim off the bike to achieve this. Is this straighforward? Any "gotchas" to doing this? Apart from cable ties what other useful bits and pieces do you recommend?

Lastly, the Autocom currently powers off a 9V battery to allow me to move it between bikes, any experience in how long this would last when powering the BT adaptor as well as the headsets etc?

Cheers and thanks for any help!!!

You will find plenty of room to run the cables from the front to the rear under the tank, just push a stiff piece of wire through first then pull you wires through with this. Cable tie in as far as you can, almost all the way. Cant help much with the rest, the bluetooth from the zumo in my van to the phone is good for about 12m, that's standing at the back so the signal has to go through the rear steel doors and a steel bulkhead. Is the BT module waterproof?

Hope this is some help.

As far as I'm aware the 1273 has to have it's own power supply and doesn't get power from the autocom.
As your not looking at a permanent position for the autocom don't put the wire under the tank

I believe it is powered from the Autocom unit as I had to send my unit to autocom to have this enabled.

However, I do need to power the Autocom unit itself or the 9V battery will run down rapidly with BT power being drawn. I have been advised to use the underseat power lead for this and to use the supplemental power adaptors provided by Autocom - one part is hard wired to the bike, the other plugs to the unit thus allowing it still to be moved between bikes. I will look into this, but that is the part I am least comfortable with - ie cutting into the wiring loom. I have seen a "piggyback" adaptor from Motorrad Concepts, but will also ask the BMW dealer if they maybe have a plug adaptor I could use which still allows the power socket to be used in addition to the Autocom.

I for a temperary measure just took the autocom power lead peeled a small length of the tip back and twisted the wire then folded it over and shoved it in the back of the Aux power socket, that was 3 months ago(reminder to self get it done properly) and it still works. Saves cutting into any wires, and you can take it out when you want
